About Us...
Upscale Theatre Company is a division of Upscale Music Studios and began in the summer of 2014 and has been expanding steadily since.
At Upscale our mission is to provide accessible quality and exciting artistic opportunities for young people in the Durham community. We run an annual Youth Group Theatre Program from January-July.
Our Program allows participants aged 10+ (at the time of audition) the opportunity to develop fundamental skills in theatre through their work in a musical production, run by experienced professionals. Participants are guided to develop confidence in performance, challenged to consider character development and physicality, and encouraged to achieve personal goals in the areas of: creative risk-taking, singing and vocal instruction, dance and choreography training, ensemble work, and teambuilding.
Our actors primarily receive quality instruction from Director, A. Salmers, and Co-Director, P. Torrenueva. Miss Salmers is a Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts teacher with the Durham Board of Education as well as a Private Music Teacher at Upscale Music Studios. Mr. Torrenueva is currently attending York University where he has completed his Bachelor's of Music in Jazz Voice, and is President of WIBI A Capella group at York University. Our company also relies heavily on qualified and enthusiastic Theatre Leader volunteers to assist in all areas of theatre production.

Since the beginning ,our theatre program has continued to grow in size!
For our July 2015 summer Theatre Program we produced Disney's The Jungle Book Kids. We produced Into the Woods JR. with our 2015/16 fall/winter cast and crew and then moved on to producing Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. in July 2016 with our biggest cast yet of 35! Our fall/winter show for 2016-17 we produced Disney's High School Musical 2 JR., again with an incredibly talented cast of 32. The summer of 2017 we produced Disney's The Lion King JR. This season we just wrapped up 4 incredible performances of Disney's Tarzan The Stage Musical.
We are now accepting registration for our 2018-19 Youth Group season!
